Field Guide for the Canonblind
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 26-29 depending on canonpoint
Species: Turian. 30ish years ago, when humanity first made contact with the galactic community, they did it by accidentally tripping over the space rules and having the turians come down on them for it. There was a war that lasted a couple months, a bunch of people died, and everyone was very upset before it calmed down.
Garrus wasn't born yet and doesn't have any particular prejudices against humanity himself, but things are still frequently a little tense between humans and turians.
Additional fun fact: Turian DNA is built on dextro-amino acids so they are at best not nourished by and at worst extremely allergic to things humans eat.
World: In the 22nd century, humanity discovered the existence of a whole galactic community of many different alien species. 30 years later, signs started cropping up that the Reapers (giant sentient squid-shaped spaceships with huge lasers) that wiped out the galaxy's previous megacivilization ~50,000 years ago were going to come back and do it again. People didn't want to believe this. Then it happened, and the day had to be saved. It was all very stressful and bad.
What They Do: Ex-cop, sniper, small-unit tactics expert. Garrus was a space cop on the Citadel (the gigantic space station/capitol city), a job that left him frustrated and restless. He joined the team of a human agent of the Citadel Council, and helped hunt down a rogue operative who was working for the Reapers. After that, the galaxy went back to denying the Reapers existed. Garrus, unable to stand his old job, started a vigilante gang harassing the mercenary companies on a lawless asteroid. When the mercs finally pinned him down and were about to kill him, he got lucky his human friend showed up again and pulled him out. He got less lucky that they needed him to help try to stop the Reaper apocalypse.
Basic Personality: Good intentions and a very hard head. Struggles with black and white thinking in places. Is frustrated with rules and red tape and feels like "a bad turian" for chafing under his people's rigid hierarchy and sacrifice-for-the-good-of-everyone ethos, but has honestly internalized a lot of things and is miserable if he doesn't feel like he's doing anything good to make the world better. (And for Garrus, that generally means shooting at and pissing off the worst kind of people.)
Exceptionally loyal if he believes in you. If you matter to Garrus, he will burn everything down and follow you directly into hell if you ask.
Re: Shipping, he's totally blindsided if somebody is interested because oh man have you seen his life are you sure??? but if he likes you in the first place, he is also super touched and endearingly awkward.
☄ First Impressions
♚ VISUAL: A tall spiky alien with a weird carapace thing going on, and mandibles. Depending on canonpoint (therefore usually) the right side of Garrus's face is heavily scarred because the dude almost got his face shot off by a rocket once.
♚ FASHION: 1.) Blue 2.) Armor 3.) The visor stays on.
♚ DEMEANOUR: Direct, confident body language unless something's really thrown him off. Can play it inconspicuous if he has to but doesn't default to it. Doesn't really hesitate.
♚ SOUND: Turian voices have a flanging effect.
☄ OOC
♚ BACKTAGGING: I am. Admittedly not the fastest tagger! If you're okay with backtags, so am I! I tend to let things that are really light (like text thread type shitposting) go after a few days, but meatier things I try to keep a grip on.
♚ FOURTHWALLING: I'd prefer not actual Mass Effect fourth walling but if you wanna pick on him for sounding like he comes from a video game or w/e go for it.
♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: You don't need my permission to go for it, reaction is obviously situation-dependent.
♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Yes it's fine, I'm not always the best at this but if you're down I'm down.
♚ RELATIONSHIPS: I don't assume ships on memes (unless that's the specific point of the meme) but also, I'm soft and probably down to figure something out.
I don't actually like writing smut, though.
